Took the centre part of the battery frame and some other fittings to a friends in Lincolnshire today to borrow the use of his blaster to clean up the last parts ready to weld in tomorrow all being well.

Whilst the back was clear first job to fit a new cap to the isolation block, as one was truly buggered.

Then set about checking the holes in the battery frame to those in the vehicle, had to drill some new ones as I suspected this frame comes from a later vehicle and naturally there'd be a few differences.

Whilst waiting for the paint to dry I set about getting the passenger side ATU cable secured in place after receiving some pics of it still in place showing the routes etc from another 40 amp FFR currently undergoing restoration via the HMVF (it also appeared on tv the other week being moved with an Humber pig)

Once the paint was dry I could finally fit the radio battery carrier.

Cheers mate, I do wonder if I'll ever stop tinkering with it lol  wdesmle today I set about securing the route of the drivers side ATU cable in place, had to back it out and feed it up the inner side of the footwell/engine bay area as oppose to the route the passenger side took. Firstly I had to secure it underneath again.

The old P clips on this side were still there (but rusty) but one was secured underneath a strengthening plate so I'v decided to drill out one of the rivets and secure it through that hole with a long thing bolt instead.

Secured along the chassis again.

Up the inner footwell area and across the bulkhead and wing.

Suppose I better try and power up the radios now lol  wdesmle

Was it just the early ones that ran the wiring over the wing rather than under and through a flappy thing?

Nice work btw!

The early/Larkspur ones had a scallop out of the bonnet edge to allow the cable to pass without damage unlike the Clansman ones with the spade shaped cover .

Made some more rivetcountry correct parts today in skool! At some point in it's life someone fitted an extra dial above the oil temp gauge, an combined oil pressure and water temp gauge but the capillary water temp part had been cut off long ago. I did find out that there are NOS panels available from Blanchards, for £56  WHTF I am all for using NOS parts if I can but not at that price though, so last night I set about taking off the old one to take into college today

The original was ali but the college didn't have any in the right thickness, but does have galvanised sheets that was so opted to use this instead (dont count that rivet)

Cut out and holes drilled.

Side part folded into shape.

Marked up for spot welding.

And finished before tea break too  wdesmle

By tea brake via a Facebook group for swb 40 amp FFR's, or Rover 8's as the military called them (yes there is a group just as sad as me  wdesmle ) I was sent the measurements for the brackets for the D rings that go between the rear bumperetts from a guy who's restoring an ex West German Boarder Patrol swb 40 amp.

Made a set of pattens by lunchtime out of galvanised sheet.

After lunch set about making the brackets out of 4mm thick sheet and 25mm wide bar.

Pilot holes drilled.

And final holes drilled, everything deburred and done  wdesmle

Got some proper DBG to paint the new panel with today, but had a bit of a dilemma in my mind though, when I originally repainted the interior years ago during the gearbox swap the paint I had wasn't quite the right shade of DBG and knew if I had just painted that one panel and have it looking different to the others it would stand out too much (to me at least lol) so there was only one thing for it.....

New oil temp panel painted.

And also fitted the NOS fuse box for the radio charging circuit too, but still need to wire it up.

The lower half of the bulkhead and seat box etc will get painted when I refit the original gearbox after its rebuild.

Panels all back in.

New panel in place, fitted an nos Smith gauge I had as I can also fit a light into it too, and speaking to other 40 amp owners some had Jaeger gauges, which mine was and tucked away for now, and some were Smiths so just guess it depends what was in stock at the time.

checking for oil leaks, none found  wdesmle
