On Tuesday I took the plunge and placed an order for some heavy duty 7 leaf swb rear springs from Owen Springs to to try and cure the FFR's saggy bottom ( ) and was surprised when they turned up by Friday  so spent today fitting them and rides alot better now
Also set about changing the change over tap for the fuel tanks with one I stripped down and cleaned up yesterday after getting a blockage last weekend, thought I'd also strip this one down too and was surprised to find a (knackered) fibre gasket inside instead of a cork one 

Bit more rivetcountery today, years ago when I got some military reg number plates made up the front one came unboarded, which I wanted, but the rear one came in the later series 3/ standard rear square, also unboarded, but wasn't the 3 lined reg that I needed, thankfully they sent me a new plate free of charge but when it turned up it was boarded, so I just lived with it for the time, earlier this week I decided to order a unboarded one and today it turned up 

And fitted ready for the village classic and custom car show tomorrow


Also had new galvanised stays for the front wings turn up too, so painted and fitted them too, as well as finding some future work on the footwells too

Yesterday I set about fitting a pair of hinge repair kits on the passenger side of the FFR, top one came apart without a drama, but the bottom one wouldn't,so I thought I'd just remove the whole hinge and strip it on the bench, only for the 50 year old captive nut and  plate to break apart inside the bulkhead  . So ended up cutting the bolt off to remove the hinge and the fight the remains out of the bulkhead, and found a hole below the hinge too. Luckily yesterday afternoon I had arranged to meet Joskin at his shed as he said to me earlier in the week that he had a welder going spare, which now has a new home with me and put it to use today making a new captive nut plate and plating up the hole 
Still got some improvement to do on my welding skills as yet and thing that it really needs a pillar at some point in the future but think that 'll do for now 

Took the radio battery frame into college that Hippydave collected and passed onto to me at LATP, bit mangled from the vehicle i was removed from but its basically made up from 1 1/4 inch angle iron so a trip to a local salvage yard I managed to find some to use for the rear and one side of the frame at least 





 

Treated the AWFFR to some NOS rivet counting parts today 



2 battery frames for the vehicle batteries between the seats and the cables to connect the antenna tuning units (atu)on the wings to the radios in the rear.







Taking the batteries out the way to gain better access to the route the cables pass though the vehicle.



Took the bracing plate off and rubbed down and re painted before refitting with the cables (need to find another cap though).



At first I thought the cable connects onto here and then onto the atu, but turns out this is where it connects too when there is no atu.



The drivers side one came loose with the vehicle when I first brought it back in 2001, just need to find where it went lol.



Passed up and connected 





And with the bonnet closed putting the gaps in the bonnet edges back into use 







Just need to get some P clips to secure it all in place but its another step closer to possible getting the radios working again!
