Isn't it :D I'm ridiculously excited. I'll be posting lots of pics and updates.

And I need a bonnet... Curiously, she doesn't have one. Anyone have one for sale? I don't care what state it's on or what type at this stage. Something is better than nothing!

I've got a S2a bulkhead that is taking up room.
 It's far from perfect.
Top rail gone (as in not there, now on wsl)
 Needs pillars and foot wells.
But might be of use to you for lower vent repairs?

Lol! Sorry... "Saved" you from that, then Viamphie ;)

Thanks Gadget, I've just turned down an S2 4 pot that sounds like it was in a similar state but still too good to cut up. Calling YRM tomorrow to see if they'll do vent panels without the curve that would normally go over the gutter - I need to while panel.
If I'm making a jig to do one bulkhead, I might as well do some more though, so shout me before you scrap it!

Cheers guys, appreciate all the encouragement. Going to throw everything at her and have a growing team of mates who want to get they hands dirty getting her sorted, but doubt she'll be at leafers this year...

I've decided she's going to be called Florence, by the way. My other 109 who will he towing her back is called Ermintrude, so keeps it all nicely Magic Roundabout :)

Roll on Wednesday!

Ian

Great news.

See you at t'Pit

We have a Florence (Mrs Armitage), Brian and Buxton here and Prof has an Ermintrude too.

Is anyone running Mr MacHendry or Mr Rusty?

Doh! A popular name, clearly. Mr Rusty is awesome, and maybe appropriate...

Yep, will make t'pit (probably in Ermintrude - you'll hear me coming from as far as Oxford) this year. Didn't make it last year as I was playing steam engines I think!

Florence is a popular name but no reason for you to feel the need to avoid it.

I suppose a good many ambulances (ladies with lamps) and ex military vehicles with -- FL 0- number plates are called Florence.

If you plan to sleep in it, would Dylan be appropriate?

'I'm, like, watching these crazy mushrooms grow, it's very tiring.'

If it ends up yellow and all imprortant then Dougal should not be forgotten.

Hehe. Gotta love Dylan! I'll see how it develops, will probably just go with whatever seems right...

Trailer booked, tons of gaskets + bits and bobs ordered, cheap razor edge sourced from eBay, help arranged for loading next week. We're all set!

Have a great weekend, everyone! I'm off to play steam engines for the first time in ages on Sunday and looking forward to it.

I guess I forget you guys are more interested in that sort of thing than most...

I shall be helping out on this beast: http://www.9466.co.uk/

Just winter maintenance - I believe she's been apart for piston exam and valve timing adjustment. There's loads of the recent boiler overhaul on the faceache group too. We'll be all over the place as usual this year, but she'll probably spend a good chunk of the summer at the Mid Norfolk.

I met the guy who owns it when he was leading this restoration project I worked with him on: http://6023.co.uk/

Yep, I get to do some awesome stuff! Compared to those machines, the 2a isn't so daunting. Not that I'm belittling the task, but I've learned a lot working on projects where you can't buy much more than nuts and bolts. EVERYTHING has to be made from scratch, from gaskets to patterns for complex cast bronze parts. It's literally like DennisM's brilliant live steam build but 1:1 scale and lots of stuff we might not even have drawings for...

I've got a dished deluxe one going spare - the frame's a bit rotten so I wouldn't trust it to support a spare wheel, and it's got no hinges, but you're welcome to it if it's any good to you...

Thanks, I managed to source a cheap one from ebay! Not sure what state the frame is in as it's covered in "soundproofing", so I may get back to you

There's a few of us on the list that like working on the full-size railway stuff. I'll be back in Colorado this summer working on a pair of replica bogies for an 1889 Pullman 3ft gauge sleeper along with a pair of trucks for a traveling post office.

White oak sandwiched between steel plates with cast strengthening pieces. State of the art in 1889.

That's some really nice work! Which railway are they for?

The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, 64 miles of ex Denver and Rio Grande San Juan Extension 3ft narrow gauge. Trains run late May thru' October through some fantastic scenery.

I've fired and driven two of these Baldwin K36 2-8-2 locos.
