Took the front panel into college today to sort out the bottom edge, grille brackets removed and begin to rub dow the rust and paint.

Rotted area cleaned up a bit more.

Making a new strengthening piece.

killing the rust!!!

Was hoping to TIG weld it all in place but due to my course lecturer going into hospital we haven't been able to get in the welding workshop this week so have to wait to use the only MIG welder in the metal shop so welding was a bit rusted to get it done before the end of the day, nothing I cant tidy up at home though  wdesmle

More progress today, stripped down TET's old front axle so the swivels can be fitted to Ralph, brakes and half shafts out and started to clean up the housings and realised that you can hardly moving them by hand  :o so pins out expecting to find the worst but seems like they're like new  wdesmle so dug out some shims and a luggage weight and got them all set up correctly before adding a bit of colour.

Stripping down the old swivels and hubs and found it held on with this ring that I'v never seen before, anyone else seen it?

Read for the new one.

Old rusty swivel.

Brain fart moment  btnghd

And done  wdesmle

Yesterday the new drive flanges arrived so first job to day was to get them sorted out, cant really see it but the inside of the new ones is deeper to stop the hub nut catching.

Moved on to do the TRE's, both out but only one new one in the garage for now, so thought I'd at least get the steering relay ready to get out, so removed all the bolts (and cut the mount off for the radiator Fentiger made when the Tdi went in) thought I'd try and see just how tight it is in the old chassis and with one gentle pry with a bar out it came  Celbrt

Checked over, cleaned up and slathered in copper grease and slipped into its new home  wdesmle

Back to Ralph today, removed the hand brake handle and high low gear lever (forgot the main gear lever) battery cables and speedo drive from the gearbox so the body should be ready to lift off the old chassis soon now, so with the weather being so good today I set about getting the bulkhead painted.
Old paint rubbed down.

Few coats of primer.

Some extra protection on the footwells with the chassis paint I was using the other day.

And some red paint  wdesmle

Nice to see some more progress on 'Ralph'. Soon be back on the road. What plans do you have for the wiring loom?

So after all the fun or engine swaps etc and sorting out the mess that is the garage I thought it would help to clear it by putting some bits back onto Ralph, so dug out the previously galvanised and primed front panel and given its coat of red  wdesmle

Same with the splash guards too.

Then next doors new kitten decide to come and help as well!

Once the paint dried got it fitted in place with the rad and intercooler and plumbed up the intercooler too.
