Taking the AWFFR to its first show of the year this weekend (actually a 40's weekend at Whitwell and Reepham Station) and thought the tools could do with a tidy up this year

Took out the AWFFR for Armed Forces Day in Bury st Edmunds and joined up with the volunteers from the RAF Regiment heritage centre and some of their vehicles to help them out with their display  ;D

And the centre's even rarer Rolls Royce Armoured car!

Been a while again  fp back in October the 12v starter motor, thats always been on it ever since Iv owned it, decided to pack up ( I have had it rebuilt before) but I thought it's probably about time I fitted a proper 24v starter motor, doing so I found out something new  :o whilst I have easily changed petrol starters from underneath with no dramas, it turns out that 24v motors are just that bit too big to remove and fit the same way  fp1
In the end I decided to make it easy and take the manifolds off and do it all from about with a clear view etc

Whilst taking the exhaust off the studs to the down pipe snapped off so new studs and brass nuts fitted thanks to Craig at Mansfield's 4x4, along with new bolts and gaskets etc on the manifolds and refitted alone with the heat shield.

Well my years of searching came to an end just before Easter  wdesmle I finally got hold of the correct ATU (Ariel tuning Unit) for the C13 HF radio set in the back of the AWFFR.

As delivered and unwrapped, pretty much NOS and never used  whoo

And fitted in place  wdesmle

I also took the chance to fit an amplifier to enable use of the loud speaker now I had the space freed from removing the incorrect ATU.

When I went to try it all it did was blow the fuse  FRSsml wasn't until the next day when I took a closer look at it and found out why!

I'm lead to believe that the 12v ones are a bit rare! luckily I brought another one with some cables etc a while ago but more more scruffy, hence why I fitted the first one, so when the new fuses arrive I'll be able to test this one.

Today with the weather being so nice I thought it'd be good to give the springs a bit of a work out on some of the local lanes.

Hi My son and I are restoring a S2 109 FFW 40 amp and looking for some radio parts for the C13 in particular the top mounting tray which is similar to the C11 but not the C42. We are in NZ but would still be interested if someone has one available.
Cheers
John

A while ago I thought the wheels were looking rather rough and in need of some TLC, so I set about repainting them whilst giving the AWFFR a good service and brake check at the same time.

Some degreasing and cleaning took place and then it was out with the NATO Green, from the local DIY place!  :o

And of course the nuts got them same treatment too.

Still got some work to do on the rear axle though, new shoes, cylinders, flexi and repairs to the strengthener.

The rest of the underside was all cleaned up at the same time.
