Nessie
« on: November 01, 2014, 10:36:42 am »
Here’s the story of my daily drive (only drive). Had it since i was 15, repaired and driven in standard form for many years then started to modify!

Over 11 years of use and modifications later the spec is 88" 2a, 200tdi, Suffix E main box, suffix A transfer box (this combination gives lowest lowbox gearing and lowest 1st/reverse, which helps with the 3.54 diffs), 3.54 24 spline rear, 3.54 10 spline front , home made front disc brake conversion (land rover discs and callipers), bulkhead, chassis, brackets ect galvanised, and loads of other little details. Roof configuration seems to change on a regular basis, currently full rag top.

Used as my daily transport, work/tow vehicle and tractor, so gets the full land rover treatment.
i like looking at others photos, so here’s some from me:

some from the rebuild a few years back:

£80 well spent on galvanising:

This is one of my favourite mods, spring plates with tube welded on, this replaces the fiddely split pin shock fixing with bolt as per top mount:

Fairey vs Santana:

Very pleased with my disc brake conversion, it uses land rover discs and calipers, works really well and, and is easy to maintain:

Great looking motor. Nice to see it working for a living and not just pampered.

Diff ratio swap (again) now running 3.9

New brake caliper mounts whilst swapping diffs (Updated version)

Then back to the usual multi use roles, first with some decent tyres and spraying the fields (off with those silly tyres they call "MUD Terrain).
Then off on the 6 hour round trip to Newbury Jumble:

If you are going with Rob on his trip you may need those tyres for the snow to get to the top of the couple of routes I have sent him!
Looking good BTW. lkebtn

Nice brake pipe routing is that, I do like to see nice routing  wdesmle

Nice little truck you have there, good to see the outside is how it should look and the user friendly mods underneath... Very nice....

Still thinking about some of your disk ding-dongs...... Have acquired some of them there pressed wheels with the holes in ready  rbchn
BIG is best, small is ok, but BIG is best...

Thanks, trouble is i now have a different servo to try out, so i may well have to re do the piping! It never ends!

well it certainly does the trick for me, to go from tractor to motorway cruising and back within a few days, what more could i want!

Ah the infamous wheels with holes in them!!

I do have some plans to try and make a set that does not require the holy wheels, but  a different type caliper will definitely be required! rbchn

How are you finding the transfer box? I am sort of on the lookout for a suffix B IIa transfer box for my 88" to lower the low ratios... (the suffix B was the same as the A but with the larger intermediate shaft bearings for added strength) The low ratios should be somewhere down near the normal levels (running 3.54 diffs here). Want to mate it to the current D suffix Series III box though (very robust!) through a Fairey OD

Nice motor, btw!
