Ive been tempted to go to the dark side of engine conversions, yes I'm going Rover v8. Managed to acquire a cheap v8 which I shall rebuild later in the year (picking it up on the way to Weirdale) ;D

Quick question to anyone who's fitted one to a series, does the crank pulley line up roughly with the hole in the bumper? Or how far out is it?

A cheap V8 is one thing, a source of cheap petrol is another. Or are you thinking of relocating yourself and your Rover to the USA in one of the states where petrol is cheap?

Zumba, you are correct, they do like a bit of petrol BUT driven sensibly mine gives around the same mpg as my old 2 1/4 petrol but much easier to drive. It really depends on how far you travel & how often you use it, wouldn't change mine for the world.....I love it whoo

Concerning mpg, the diesel thats in it is only returning about 26mpg and it struggles around the hilly areas which in North Wales is a lot.

I also dont do that many miles seeing as i live less than a mile from work so cant justify a tdi (which i dont like anyway).

The engine im getting needs new bearings (which i would do anyway on any engine i get) but when it was in a series 3 88" with overdrive it was getting 22-24mpg on a run. The drop isnt much and as i dont do many miles i wont notice the difference (my excuse anyway!)

I sit at T junctions blipping the throttle just wasting petrol & listening to it, it's even better now it's ****

There is no finer sound or way to go in a series whoo

Another thumbs up for the V8. My 109 was a 2.25 petrol originally, then when that died I did the "sensible" thing and converted to a little turbo diesel. I hated it with such a passion I hardly drove her for three years... One V8 conversion later and I now take her out for a spin just because it never fails to make me smile. That noise, the endless, effortless torque, the pops, bangs and odd flame on over-run... Priceless. Yeah, it's a bit thirsty if you use the loud pedal lots, but you pay for your pleasures!

Beautiful work and a lovely thread, by the way. Shout of I can help with any conversion pointers. Going carbs or efi?

/Ian

Cheers guys,

This weekend I have mostly been prepping and checking over for the MoT next Saturday morning.

Adjusted both front wheel bearings and checked all the brake adjustment
Fitted a new lift pump
Swapped the lower steering relay seal
Greased all the track rod ends, prop shafts and brake pipes
Painted the chassis

Tomorrow I'm hoping to put a paint on the front panel and a couple of rusty bits on the bulkhead (being parked outside the boatyard where I work doesn't do wonders for steel!)

Well done.
All the right bits, but not necessarily in the right order.

Feels like driving a new car now. "Borrowed" my brothers cubby box to fit in the series for extra storage and elbow rest on long trips as well as replaced the rubber stop that fits behind the drivers seat back as the old one had split and gone AWOL meaning I was always driving with the seat lopsided which as can be imagined was not doing any wonders to my spine on a trip longer than 10miles. Much nicer to drive now, back feels much better supported.

The main result was the installation of new injectors which has made a large difference. Torque and power has improved somewhat and its much smoother at idle and quieter at 55-60 (before at these speeds I was getting a bit of diesel knock). I hope to put the old injectors on my tester and see how far out of kilter they were
