Batty Wagon (Sara's 109)
« on: April 16, 2016, 12:19:27 pm »
Just realised theres no thread for Batty Wagon here  whstle so to get started heres the Stage 1 rear axle we got from Drew for Batty Wagon, after being shot blasted and primed found out the shock mounts were buggered  Skd so thinking they would be the same as Debender ones ordered some from YRM. arrived, very well made, but not the same as I thought  FRSsml my own fault so set about making them fit instead  wdesmle

Need to cut a big hole soon for this  wdesmle

Sorted out the pipework for the air filter, turbo and intercooler this afternoon after giving the footwell a good coating of paint and stone guard  beforehand

After seeing how Munkie had done this set up on Brenda and noticing that the pipe from the turbo was catching the bulkhead support bracket I made my own bracket to overcome this problem

Alternator pulley is out of line with the water pump. Might cause you trouble in the future

Took the Wolf locker to work this week and when it was quite took the chance to give it a clean up and paint ready to fit at the weekend. A bit of measuring and a bit hole appears!!!

After carefully cutting and grinding it back just enough, and cutting the right side down to clear the rear bulkhead slope the first proper test fit happened!!! (Had to cut away a strengthening plate at the top and behind where the locker goes to fit it too)

Then took the time to clean up, paint and rustproof the area before fitting.

Then slid it into place, holes drilled and riveted in, along with a couple of additional bolts in the top and rear corners, along with the new battery cables passed through into it too through a larger hole drilled out before with a holesaw.

Little bit more progress today after a bit of a clear out around here, stripped down the spare axle in the week for the back plates and a few other bits for other people and and got the Stage one axle stripped ready for the new back plates.

Replacement backplates cleaned up and given a coat of black paint before fitting and longer studs for the Wolf rims fitted too.

Need a new seal for the N/S hub so chucked a bit of black paint on the O/S hub and some old drums ons for now until the brakes from the current axle get checked over and transferred over.

Still need to get a seal for that rear hub so this morning I finished off cleaning all the old army paint from the windscreen that I started doing in the week and re-done the bottom welds on the front cross member, as it wasn't very well done back at Sara's parents house when we removed the power steering etc.

Bit more done on Batty Wagon today, cleaned up and painted the front of the chassis with red oxide and stone guard and then sorted out the alternator mount/spacing. Guess I'll have to start on the electrics soon then  Skd

Sara's been prepping the front body ready for its new paint scheme

Front panel got a coat of red oxide after Sara prepped it too

New fan mounts made and fitted with the fan too

And heater fitted in place too!

Also lowered the header tank so that now clears the bonnet too  wdesmle
