It has had some welding done, springs are ok so i wonder if the passenger side hanger to hanger is longer BUT surely the rear spring hanger would adjust at a different angle so as to take up the slack. dunno what else could it be?? Have roughly measured each side and there is no obvious difference.

I ve come to the conclusion that since its had some shite chassis repairs in the past that it is spring mount location or/ unsquare crossmember/chassis somewhere so im going to stick an extended shackle on the rear passenger and see what that does, it may also be dragging the front down but il do it as a test.

went a bit crazy today and i ve totally **** myself, i feel shite!! Just spent all day messing about. The things i have done:

Removed the chequerplate wing tops as they looked shite.

Fitted the steve parker exhaust which is not as easy as it says, plus its a britpart exhaust cut and welded so not massively impressed but we shall see how long it lasts. its fitted ok just needs some fettling at the back.

Replaced the gearstick with a s3 one thats not been cut and welded so is more original looking.

Fitted a 1 ton spring shackle to my passenger rear and now it sits level so i think the problem is a badly welded front spring mount, the one attached to the outrigger. I have found the outrigger has a big crack in it and has been repaired many times so il weld the crack up and look at replacing it at some point.

Leaning fixed in terms of degrees that i can live with!!! changed the passenger spring to the one that was on the drivers side, now its half an inch or so between the ground and each wheel arch. I have a set of 1 ton shackles free now that i might use at some point.
Patched the outrigger on the backside then the bottom fell out of it  chpr, used plates cut out from my old exhaust silencer. Typical s3 chassis then, i need to buy more steel plate for patching!!

I have the rear doors to weld up at some point and all the window channels to change when they turn up.

Well my springs we have determined are just knackered so im after a pair of rear hd which i have discovered do not have helper springs, they just have 7-8 thicker leaves.

Found some more welding needing doing near the fuel tank under a chassis rail, its diesel so i assume its ok to weld it there, i would of course slot a wooden sheet between the two as a barrier.

My front diff bearing seems a little wobbly but i ve had this before where it was the bearing in the nose housing not the bearing itself so il just swap the diff at some point i think.

I have been redoing some of the window runners with the plastic ones which are excellent although i have not used sealant in the second row doors as they need stripping and repairing...pretty damn rusty.

Got loads of other stuff on the list as well, never ending!!

Well i ve been doing lots of miles as usual, found the pinion bearing in the front diff a bit wobbly so i was kindly given the remains of a pair of axles from a s3 lightweight with fairey free wheeling hubs which i have fitted for now. I also have a good diff to fit at some point plus another spare. Also have a set of s3 11 inch backplates, drums, stub axles etc to replace my rear which i currently on a series 2 smaller wheel stud type fitted by the previous owner.
Now in the last few days one of my front axles chrome ball seals has **** all the oil out, i mean its just totally **** in space of a few days! oil everywhere. so at some point il be doing front diff and fit a new seal, least its all related in the same area, while i ve got it apart etc.

Now back to springs...i have found a set of rear hd 109 type new that i got delivered by the blokes daughter who happened to work close by. They are the type without helpers but all the leafs are at least twice as thick, apparently they are britpart but hes had them in stock for years and i got them at less than the cost of 1 new britpart standard type so worth a shot. They look ok so wel see what happens.

I have also Fitted the wright off road sound proofing kit that has made a big difference although i find it hateful to fit!!

So basically i ve crossed several things off the list and added a load more!!  wdesmle  Normal service.

well since starting my new job down the road in a hydraulics spot i ve not done much so had a play today. Fitted my heavy duty rear springs which seem to have sorted the leaning to land rover tolerances so thats good, fitted some 1 ton shackles at the back as i had them in stock. sits higher so i have a slight dragster look at the moment. I am tempted to fit parabolics on the front to even it up especially since im going to fit this bloody great winch to the front  whstle

I have some welding to do as well just on one chassis leg where its had a new cross member and where its been patched before.

My plan is to remove the overdrive and fit the hydraulic winch pto as im not doing many miles now so that will be up for sale soon. I will then fit some rr diffs at some point especially since my front diff is a bit crap anyway.

Interestingly the rescue tender had a massive what i assume was an electric winch, there was a pic of it in service with a folder full of stuff that you should have got with it.the base of it is still on the front i think but it had hideous lights on the wings as the winch was so high it covered them...........although it is a 2a anyway..

Well i ve been rummaging in the local scrappy and came back with a rr classic diff that i have fitted, gearing is much better for the tdi, better spaced for road use. There is another in there with my name on it although the end cap bolts are rusted solid so i may need to cut the axle tube to get it apart. Reason im doing this and not taking one of the 30 other diffs in there is they have the filler plug in the casing so no need to adapt the axle case etc. and it looks original.....
I need to sort a front diff next. I have also removed the overdrive and fitted the hydraulic pto. Just need to make some new pipes at work at some point when i sort a hydraulic tank an im away winching  wdesmle

so i have a spare overdrive that could be moved on.
