Hi from Oxfordshire
« on: October 09, 2019, 06:24:53 pm »
Hi my name is Paul and I have had a few Land Rovers over the years but series are my favoured choice, my last series 2 was a 109 double cab that had only 2 owners from new but unfortunately due to required surgery I had to sell as I was struggling to both drive and maintain it, after surgery and full recovery I have been looking for a series 2 for a few months now, viewed a couple but they weren’t what I was looking for and was beginning to wander if I was going to get one then about 3 weeks ago Paul from this parish messaged me after seeing my search and said he was possibly going to sell his so as to make time for his other Land Rover
We went and viewed the Land Rover on Saturday after receiving lots of photos and we met the owner Paul and his lovely wife and purchased it, to say I am very happy is an understatement I am over the moon, it is an ex RAF 1963 series 2 swb 2 1/4 petrol hardtop,Paul has done a lot of work on it and the quality of workmanship is excellent, I drove it home from Rugby and it drives well, I believe it’s the furthest it’s been driven since Paul’s ownership, it has 3.54 diffs fitted with 750 tyres and drives well with this combination having only ever having a fairey overdrive in the past I’m impressed with this combination so far, it has just single lights on the wings ie indicator and sidelight in one which are orange but someone at work today suggested that they should be clear any thoughts on this would be appreciated, I will try and post some pictures now cheers Paul Tash n Barney the Lab

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum!

That's a great looking landy and I've never seen one with the unmodified wings. As for the orange or clear light question... if it passes MOTs and you're happy with it, i'd leave it as it is :D

Originally it would have had a clear Lucas L488 side lamp, i believe.

Welcome! A very tidy looking landy you have there.

I _think_ the side lights should be clear lenses but with funky orange bulbs for the indicators (would make sense that way) but I'm sure someone here will be able to say for sure.

Hi birdsnest55 and Lo-Fi Thank you both very much for my welcome, haha Paul you have as you’ve been very much hands on with this Land Rover and a fine job you have done as well, I drove it in to work yesterday and spent my lunch hour showing people around it, as it had attracted rather a lot of attention in a car park of around 40 odd cars 👍 interesting regarding the front lights I’m struggling to find what is right and wrong but I’m not worried at the moment as I’m not driving and needing the side/head lights on so they are just being used as indicators,
Paul thank you for telling me about this forum as I hadn’t come across it before and have been having a good look around and it looks great 👍 Paul did you notice I took the overriders off of the bumper, I’m leaving it for a bit as I’m on the fence at the moment but Tash prefers it without them 👍Many Thanks Paul

There was a guy at leafers this year who had combined sidelights/indicators that were white with the sidelights but flashed orange with the indicators. He got them off ebay apparently, a really smart solution.

Hi Big Rich thank you for that, i believe this set of lights just has a single bulb with a dual filament so will look in to the double bulb set up cheers Paul

Paul I was advised that you can flash white or orange lights by my local garage. He suggested flashing orange would be his choice. I am sure someone on here is an MOT tester can check the rules for a 1963 vehicle.

 Hi. Welcome aboard.

As I understand it a twin filament white bulb in a clear lens is ok on a 63 vehicle.

If you switch to an orange bulb you may lose your marker light.

That's a lovely looking vehicle,  Paul's work is always excellent, he has been playing with landrovers for an awfully long time.

If only someone on this parish had an RAF flavoured Sankey for sale to go with it.
All the right bits, but not necessarily in the right order.

I do indeed have a genuine RAF narrow track that needs a good home!

Of course, you'll be needing a tent in the one true green eventually. rbchn

And a hat! whstle

All the right bits, but not necessarily in the right order.
