Cleaned off the rear load area chassis bit ready for the welding chaps to come and quote for some work. Will get the solid bits prep's and primed.
Put the drain attachment of my pressure washer down the inside, dirt and a little bit of rust came out.

When it gets welded, it is best welded attached, then lifted up so the top can be done - although should get to all the sides as the floor is out

Just looking online at the rear crossmembers and the ones with extensions don't seem to have the rear supports for the rearmost floor support.
Is there a specific SW part number?

I think you'll need to cut off the old supports and re-use

Got most of the rear chassis primed

Also managed to get off the side sills but not a pretty sight on one side, fair on the other.

Looking to slow the surface rust with some rust converter which I will t-cut back so only the converted areas are coloured by the converter and the paint is freshened. Will then apply a hefty coat of Finishcare 1000p sealant wax to help keep out the elements. Not a long term solution but I am looking to get to  a rolling restoration stage asap.

Next weekend job will be removing the rear suspension, fettling the nearside spring and fitting the salisbury axle. Evening after work jobs will be to do a bit of bodywork fettling and weather protection.

I still have the stray cat living inside and helping with moral support.

Nice work on the chassis.

Compared to the sills on mine, those are positively solid! YRM do replacements, but they're not cheap. Looks like you might get away with carefully letting some new bits of tin in and dressing back on those, though.

Thanks Ian, I hope I can at least temporarily get away without paying for all new side frames. I need to get the front seat box out and that means drilling out the bolts holding the seatbelt bracket in as very rusty and inaccessible to a grinder. I'll definitely need the angle piece y the rear door although got a side frame from Alex in Holmfirth that may rescue for one side. The drivers side sill may clean up but may need both sill to bulkhead ends. I need to keep cost down and get it running. Once I have the rear end done (Salisbury fitted, fuel tank in, nearside spring returned and floor in likely) I can get the front stripped enough to see the parts needed and get I touch with the welder again. Having fun tho!

Well the rear axle and suspension is off.
No idea how I'm going to get that bloody heavy Salisbury fitted!

Get a chum to help lift, or you may require surgery.
All the right bits, but not necessarily in the right order.

You and that Land Rover have definitely been chosen by the cat.  Are you feeding it yet?

Against my better judgement my partner started feeding it.
Now when I get up in the morning it's meowing on the front doorstep.
It's very friendly and seems to spend most of the time sleeping on the seatbox- It's there right now.
Even when I manage to unbolt the seatbox I will have to leave it in situe apart from when it has to be off.
If I get the rear axle fitted and the fuel tank I will loosely fit the rear floor and see if it wants to spread out.
If I didn't have 5 greyhounds I'm sure it would be in the house.

The cat is only there to snigger when you graze your knuckles and criticise you for using metric bolts.

Let the dogs out!
All the right bits, but not necessarily in the right order.

I decided that this weekend was the 'get the rear suspension on' weekend.
I refurbed the rear spring that wasn't done by the PO.

Then foolishly thought I'd whip a poor looking bush out after work on friday and pop another back in. As ever this didn't go well taking 2 hours to get out

Fortunately the next morning went better and with a socket and big hammer the new bush went in reasonably ok.

Now I needed to move the Salisbury axle from the rear of the house to the front and fit it. I had formulated a plan during a sleepless night last week. The plan was to get the axle on the wheel dollys.

Then use the trolley jack to lift the big axle onto axle stands still on the dollys, roll under the LR and then fit the springs

It went pretty well

And then added a bit of paint

It took it out of the support team

It didn't all go well. To finish off I went to put the wheels on and discovered the wheel nuts I have are from the old axle and too small - ggggrrrrrrrr.
If I'm not too sore tomorrow I might try and fit the fuel tank.
