Novices are better with longer boats as are they are easier to control and less prone to tipping. Before i take anyone on the water they get a practice so i can see who i need to keep and eye one and who needs to be given paddling practice as moving water is totally different to still water paddling, and everybody will get the obligatory river safety talk.
