Day out - Elvington Air Museum.
« on: September 18, 2019, 11:38:42 am »
On 6th October the firm I drive for is holding a 70th anniversary celebration by meeting at their depot at Hemingbrough, near Selby and going on a 'mystery drive' culminating at Elvington Air Museum near York. Vehicles will be vintage buses/coaches, cars, maybe some commercials and at least one land rover, which will be mine. They held a similar event a couple of years ago which was very friendly and enjoyable. The added attraction of course is the Air Museum itself, full of wartime and other planes and equipment. Grandson really enjoyed the planes etc.. There is also a café on site. Anyone interested in joining in? Either PM me or contact Phil Thornes on 01757 630777 for details and an entry form.
Other 'vehicles of interest' are welcome too.

That was me splashing through that puddle. Did you notice the extras we gained on our convoy? I mean the army convoy that sort of split us up for a short time. Yes, there were our two series and a fitted for radio  Landy. Don't know if it was a Defender or maybe earlier. It was an enjoyable run out even though we had to find another route due to an accident blocking the little country road we were on. Some interesting buses turned up and several vintage cars. I particularly liked the Morgan 3 wheeler with the JAP engine. I am going to try persuade Phil Thornes to hold this event annually and try to persuade a few more Landies to attend and have our own mini meeting within the main event.

Have just looked at the photos of the event and found them to be marvellous. Really enjoyable, as was the whole thing. Buses, coaches, vintage and not so vintage cars, planes, wartime vehicles and, of course, some Landies, but not enough of them. Thanks for the pictures!

I like it as it has a nice mix of interests with the military vehicles, buses, cars and planes.

Shame more didn't go through the puddle as would have made for some nice photos.

Missed the MOD convoy was that on the A64?

Yes, A64. There were about eight wagons and a couple of Land Rovers. They carried on in direction of York after we turned off.
