In follow up to Landrover style thread I've started this to try and keep you all updated on what I do or plan to do
So starting point is ROM my 1969 2a I've had the past 13 years. We've had a few engine and roof combinations along the way but currently rocking a full soft top with military roll bar

Plan is to add to create a late 60s early 70s California desert exploration feel a real period US style more often seen on jeeps and FJ40 toyotas
So will be looking at adding
Jerry can holder on rear tailgate
70s alloy wheels with big mud terrain tyres
Period winch on front
KC day lighter spots
Bright and distinct paint job maybe incorporating stripes or decals
Period radio and CB
All the details have to be correct of the time or the look as a whole will fail

I'm liking the lack of sill strip and the S1-stylee straight cut behind the rear arch. Very classic looking :-)

id had him a week or so and crunched the passenger side on some railing so off came the sills (drivers was already damaged) then I decided with no sills I should cut the tub. Sometime I think I wish it still had that curve and should I put sills back on. but it does help make the whole truck look very high and lifted which I love

This is a great thread! The devil as always is in the detail, I don't know if it's because I am getting older but I really love stuff like this. Having a great theme that stands out from the crowd as a project is very satisfying. I really like looking at other people's take on similar lines to get ideas. This has great potential with loads of really cool parts that could be used.

nice looking land rover and looking forward to seeing your progress!! I had a jerry can holder on the tailgate of mine when i bought it as a truck cab, it did looking really awesome but i took off when i went to a hardtop, sadly no pictures!

I may have some retrotastic cbs in my shed, I will have a look after BIlling.
There are certainly 1970's radios and maybe a delux cassette player, they may struggle to perform as anything other than a box to keep an MP3 player in but I will post photos if I find stuff.

slow progress I've got some speakers and found a stereo in the shed so will soon have some tunes! I've also got a lead on some wheels which would be perfect but I get the feeling they will end up on the dreaded eBay and end up going for a fortune

I actually have a 1970 California registered 88" station wagon. It has 15" wheels (16" tyres were hard to get hold of back then in the U.S.), a front mounted jerry can and two weird jerry can holders that mounted just aft of the doors (which you are welcome to have, if Viamphie doesn't see them first). When I get back home, I will post pictures.

Batty Wagon's got 15 inch 8 spokes fitted at the moment if you wanna talk Sara into selling them to Rom ;)

As promised, here are some piccies of my 1970 Series IIA Station Wagon. Note the tropical roof and 15" wheels. The front jerry can holds water and doesn't appear to impede airflow - it has never overheated.

Side marker lamps were an option.

Curious bracket to hold a jerry can - there was one on each side. There was also a gun rack behind the seats and a CB radio - both long gone.

There's a bridge plate on the back door - I think a previous owner was a Navy Seal who served in Germany where he probably got a taste for Land Rovers and the bridge plate was a souvenir.

You were probably hoping for something a bit more sexy but to be honest, most Land Rovers I've seen over here were hard tops. Soft tops were an aftermarket add-on. Don't let that stop you though!

So this weekend speakers and radio have going in. Used a radio I had in the shed modern but will do until can afford one of the retro style ones with modern bits inside

Speakers are in the fool wells. Looks like drivers side should be in the way but even my size 11s in wellies have plenty of room

The speakers are waterproof marine ones the head unit is hopefully tucked enough out of the way to stay pretty sheltered. The sounds not bad needs some volume on the move but short of mounting one speaker to each ear there's not much can do in a series

Good thread Westy, I've just been looking at radios and speakers in the living box, no joy I'm afraid , but I did find an old skool cool graphic equalizzzzeeeerrrr you can have if you want it 😉

As some of you would know I have a fleet of ex-military Land Rovers (11 in total) and I also like to listen to music etc,. whilst driving or stationary, so in keeping
with the military theme I mounted a radio/usb type thingy in a 7.62 Bren magazine box, it has a 6 foot cable which has a marine coupling on the end, to plug into
power supply, you could also use a cigarette lighter type power point, it works very well

it also has provison for an aerial via a PL259 plug on the top of the box, inside the box it has a small 12 volt gel storage battery so it doesn't lose it's memory
