Title: Half day's indoor climbing .....
Post by: mistericeman on March 07, 2016, 07:50:08 pm
Just a thought after this weekends Alderley Edge mine explore .....

I've had an "Itch" to scratch for some time ...to have a crack at a spot of climbing (I really want to make 2016 the year of me learning some Single rope technique)
And as a bit of an aside some climbing practice might be a plan ....They rent out harnesses/climbing shoes etc AND will make sure you won't get killed to death

Looking ATM at a spot in Stockport in an old mill .....
IF there is enough interest in booking a group slot for approx 6/10 folks it'll probs work out cheaper .

Could be a fun way to spend half a day or so scaring yourself silly lol

Names on Ze list IF you are remotely interested

I asked locally the other year about srt, but the outdoor centre here only does abseiling.

Funnily enough it was because I'd been reading up on getting into Moel Fferna, but you mentioned in your recent thread that it could be a possible scramble to access/exit it?  rbchn

...Oh yes, and I aquired a small but perfectly formed Electron type ladder last year too.  ;D
(Dunno if I'll ever use it though.)

Apart from that, I'm not really into climbing though.

I really want to visit Moel Kev .....

Depending on who you speak too it's either Electron ladder/Rope OR a bit of a scramble with maybe rope for assistance/handline ...

I'm hoping to get over that way at some point for a bit of a recce  rbchn
Apparently its a tad steep sloped down to an iron ladder to the bottom BUT is doable in the dry ????

...And it's not too far from the Lost Lake for possible camping.  whstle

As SRT goes, Fferna is nice and straightforward. I wouldn't like to do it on a rope without a jammer or something for safety, but even a Shunt would do. Or Prussic knot if you're into that sort of thing. I.e. you'd be doing it as a scramble but with some sort of a device to stop you if you start to slip.
Personally I find electron ladders to be evil buggers, best avoided.

I found that the best way to learn SRT was to join a group of experienced explorers, borrow kit for a couple of trips and just go for it. Starting with through trips that only involved abseils before moving on to ascents worked for me (followed by some proper training sessions).
If you can get to North Wales on a Thursday night, usually Blaenau or Bettws area, we'll be heading somewhere and are always happy to welcome a newbie or two. Check out the Aditnow forum for details. No SRT this Thursday (just cold, wet and miserable), but there will almost certainly be some next week.
