I went shopping today!!
-
You saved it, what's your plan weld old chassis or get a galvanised one?
-
Just couldn't resist! 1 owner, un-molested, book pack, service book, old mots etc etc!
Need to see how bad the chassis, they stressed its rotten but I think it maybe saveable still with some work.
Bloody love it!

That is a real thing of beauty. If your mrs forces you to part with it I will happily take it off your hands to add to my stable. I don't have a wife telling me what I can and can't buy. I'm a happy Bachelor! Lol

Looks great, congratulations! You need to stress that it is a family vehicle, with lots of space for the kids, so it is a logical development. I'm sure the wife will appreciate this whstle

Nice !

I know the hell you are experiencing. It took me a year for the "bucket of rust" to be tolerated. Just try to keep an incredibly low domestic radar signature...
Trouble is she then becomes used to it.
Nice vehicle...best of luck.
Give it 5 years & the youngster will love the vehicle!
There is an art of introducing another member of the family - worthy of a thread of its own I would suggest...
Kindest regards
Mark

super ace wdesmle
great stuff to have lkebtn

Chassis is rotten from about middle backwards.
New galvanised one ordered!
-
Nice looking vehicle, definatley worth a bit of time and effort being spent on it.
-
that looks like it was a well loved motor from the interior.
-
Looking at the motor surely the chassis can't be that bad, everything else look's mint.
-
It's seems to have been really well looked after, but it has been parked up a long time. I'm guessing it was inside as the body and interior are so perfect (all the roof vents work!), but the chassis is a mixed bag. Front is good (possibly helped by the various minor oil leaks!). The rear is rotten, has had a few plates in the past but it is too far gone now.
Shame, I'm desperate to drive it!!
-
Quality! Should never have sold mine :(
-
Looks tidy. So a bad chassis you say? How bad is bad?
-
Would it be appropriate to suggest a workshop weekend to do the chassis swap?
Rhetorical question from me:
Do you have all the parts
Do you have a workshop for the duration
Roughly where in the country are you
What do the far more experienced SS members think?
It would get you started & some way down the road. With a family as well it may be seen as a positive side of LR ownership...by the Long Haired Commanding Officer.
Something to ponder whilst all those spanner irons are twitching throughout winter.
Kindest regards

Quality! Should never have sold mine :(
Now now! You really don't!
-
She's back on the road!
Galvanised Richards chassis
3.9 engine running original carbs, air cleaner etc
Range Rover transer gears
Needs springs fitting (took forever to get from Jones Springs)
On temp wheels, originals shot blasted and powder coated, waiting on final tyre choice.
It's bloody awesome!! Love it to bits!!
All work done by Alex Engineering, they've done a great job.

Love it - I fear I need a Stage One in my life. The agreement is that I'd have to sell one of the leafers I already have, so not very likely to happen anytime soon, but cool trucks like yours really tempt me 5xif
-
I'll try and bring it to Kutna Hora next year if I can get the time off, just to tempt you!!
She had a little work out today collecting her old engine, spare gearbox and axles!!

Sell me a leafer for £5. Buy it back immediately for £9.
You keep your promise and have sold a leafer, You get the stage one. I get a Guinness!

-
Why did you change the engine??
-
Other than it not having the original lump, it being knackered, having a good 3.9 to hand, wanting enough poke to tow and cover long distances?
Just felt like it! whstle
-
Really nice. I do like it alot. 5xif

:(
That should be salvageable, might need a dumb iron welding in.
My advice would be do not let the insurance company remove it from you whatever they say.
Keep it on your drive unless they have agreed to repair it. Don't let it out of your sight.
I have heard some horror stories of others being written off, and when the owner finally goes to force collection from the storage place bits have been stripped.
-
Agree - put it behind a locked gate or door and do not let it go!
-
It's safe! Not going through insurance - don't want to risk losing it.
Will find out next week how bad it is. My biggest frustration is the wing, it's original paint :-[
-
I went through insurance after a twatted a tractor with my 88". I priced everything up to fi myself using second hand parts and they were happy as was within my ecess. They didnt even send anyone round to inspect it. Was quite a substantial smack and im amazed it wasnt classed as a write off. Happily done a few thousand miles since then though but i need to finish her off really as certain little niggles are getting on my ****
